Leave those groups that aren’t intersectional enough you
We’re now in the second month of 2022, so I’d like to remind you; leave those social circles and group chats that aren’t intersectional enough for you.
It’s an overdue act of kindness that you owe yourself — so leave those groups.
Now, stop me if this sounds familiar; has a space been a little racist, transphobic, ableist, and otherwise bigoted to your life’s realities? But you put up with it because it’s somewhere you like to spend time?
Friend that’s a sign it’s time to go. Why should you as a marginalized individual put up with that? — Especially my Black folks.
Again, there’s absolutely nothing to be gained to be in spaces or groups with people that don’t respect nor try to understand what life is like for you. Reality is different for all of us by virtue of just living. The things you can’t outrun and are constantly there.
I’m just saying, wouldn’t it be easier to be somewhere that just gets you? No explanation needed, no arguing, no wasted breath, etc etc.
You know how you get that tingly spider-sense when you go to spaces that have no Black people? No queer folks? No femmes? There’s only cishet men? Or there’s no one that looks like you or can relate to yourself? — You know the one —
